The Naval Audit Service, which is the internal audit function for the Department of the Navy (DON), is a forward-thinking organization of civilian employees. Our goal is to produce the highest quality audit reports possible to assist Navy and Marine Corps managers in effectively and efficiently fulfilling their responsibilities.
The Naval Audit Service recently published its Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2017-2021. Click here to view the plan.
The Audit Service is led by the Auditor General of the Navy, who serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and Commandant of the Marine Corps on all audit-related matters. The Auditor General has sole responsibility for auditing within DON. The Auditor General is assisted by the Deputy Auditor General of the Navy, four Assistant Auditors General, and two Principal Directors. Audit directorates are functionally aligned, as shown below.
The Naval Audit Service has a staff of auditors and support personnel. Our auditors are required to meet Government Accountability Office-mandated continuing professional education requirements.
The Naval Audit Service is headquartered at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC, and has field offices in Norfolk, VA and San Diego, CA.
