Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy (Policy) Roles and Responsibilities:
 
The DUSN advises the SECNAV and the UNSECNAV on foreign and defense policy, intelligence, and security issues.  
 
    • Coordinate defense and foreign policy issues with USD(P) and, at the direction of the SECNAV, formulate department-wide strategic plans, program objectives, policies and standards in support of policy objectives;
    • Prepare the Secretary of the Navy's policy planning guidance for Department of the Navy POM development. 
    • Serve as the DON Security Executive, working with USD(I);
    • Support the SECNAV and UNSECNAV in the execution of their statutory intelligence responsibilities, working with USD(I);
    • Act as directed for the SECNAV and UNSECNAV with senior officials and agencies of the United States Government, as well as conduct international outreach to foreign maritime allies and partners;
    • Support the Secretary of the Navy's Advisory Panel (SNAP).
