Director, Northwest Tech Bridge
Entrepreneur, Bunker Labs Seattle Cofounder, Navy Reserve Surface Warfare Officer, and former commercial fisherman. Johannes specializes in building startup ecosystems that enable entrepreneurs to build great companies and solve difficult problems. Brings entrepreneurial experience to the Navy to accelerate solving complex problems and rapidly getting new tools to our Sailors, Marines, and Department of the Navy workforce.
Northwest (NW) Tech Bridge was the result of an alignment of many factors. As the Department of the Navy identified its need to develop new technology and partnerships at scale, the Washington State Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), Impact, simultaneously engaged with a group of stakeholders from the Washington State maritime sector, industry and academia to increase capabilities of the Washington maritime industry. These initiatives, coupled with Washington's multi-million dollar investment in local innovation centers, culminated in very fertile ground for collaboration on national Navy challenges.
Our NW Tech Bridge will identify a low-barrier off-base facility to support rapid collaboration, workshops, and problem-solving events nearby in Kitsap County. NUWC Keyport is working on a contractual agreement that will allow for day-to-day collaboration on problems with industry and academia in a physical collision space. Extensive academic and industry collaboration already occurs within the state with our top tier research and training institutions such as Washington State University (WSU), University of Washington (UW) and UW Tacoma, Western Washington University, and Olympic College. Leveraging these relationships are critical to the success of NW Tech Bridge and the Navy.
We look forward to the NW Tech Bridge continuing the great work of our region's Innovation Ecosystem, and appreciate the support of our local, state, and federal government teams as well as our academic and industrial base partners on the journey ahead!
