  • 11th National Small Business Conference

    September 9 - September 10

NDIA's Top Issues serve to guide the Association's advocacy and educational activities throughout the year. The issues are broad in nature and essential to maintaining a strong, viable defense industry capable of meeting U.S. national security requirements.

Each year, the Top Issues are developed by the senior industry leadership of the Association, prepared by the Government Policy Advisory Division, reviewed by the Education and Lobbying Committee, and formally approved by NDIA's Board of Directors.

All goals for 2014 have been focused on Maintaining a Strong National Defense in the Face of Significant Fiscal Challenges. Small Business Issue 8: Make it Easier for Small Businesses to Compete for Government Contracts is the heart of this year's conference.

Small businesses face special challenges when competing for contracts with the government, whether that competition involves only other small businesses or also large corporations. The U.S. Government must take care that its programs meant to protect small business competitiveness are accomplishing their intended goals.

  • DC ORP Veteran Networking Breakfast

    April 22nd 7:15am - 9:00am

The focus of ORP is always on networking and the strength we gain from Veterans working together, but we do have a speaker to enlighten us while we eat breakfast. We are planning on two speakers this month. I have asked a senior military lawyer to come and talk about issues facing the military today. As soon as this is confirmed I will let everyone know. Also, West Huddleston, CEO of National Association of Drug Court Professionals will educate us on Veterans for Justice, an initiative supporting Veterans Treatment Courts and issues facing Veterans. As many of us know too well, substance abuse and military service are closely related and statistics show that as many as 1 in 6 Veterans of the current conflicts are substance abusers. This is an important initiative and we should be educated on the pros and cons of the program. The combination of hearing about legal issues facing warriors in uniform and those facing Veterans will be educational and insightful.
