Foreign Military Sales (FMS) provides extensive training opportunities for foreign students through Department of Defense schools. The goal is to prepare the foreign students to be self sufficient in operating and maintaining defense equipment in their countries. Training includes formal, informal, correspondence and other forms of distance learning or computer-aided instruction in the United States and overseas. Training may be purchased through FMS or obtained using funds provided by foreign assistance appropriations, such as the International Military Education and Training (IMET) program, Foreign Military Financing (FMF), and Peacekeeping Operations (PKO).

Training is an integral part of the success of a weapon system program. The Navy Education and Training Security Assistance Field Activity (NETSAFA) is the U.S. Navy's agent for international education and training. For more information, go to http://www.netsafa.navy.mil/.
