DON IUID Policy Goals

SECNAVINST 4440.34 establishes policy and assigns responsibilities for implementing and managing IUID with the DON. The 23 Dec 2009 version of the policy is currently under revision. The new edition will incorporate the goals listed below. These DON IUID policy goals support Legislative and OSD objectives:

  • IUID shall be implemented and maintained using UII procedures throughout the DON for new acquisitions, legacy items and Government Furnished Property, consistent with DoD IUID policy and guidelines.
  • UII shall be used to support asset valuation and accountability for audit readiness of property, plant and equipment (PP&E) and operating materials and supplies (OM&S) portions of DoD Financial Statements.
  • UIIs shall be used globally throughout the DON as the mandatory data element and common key to identify unique items in financial property accountability, acquisition, supply, maintenance, logistics accountability property systems of record and business processes to provide asset accountability, valuation, life-cycle management and counterfeit materiel risk reduction.
  • All DON business systems that track individual items for purposes of accountability shall be IUID enabled.
