    The Naval Research Laboratory welcomed two new intellectual property attorneys to its Washington, DC office in December 2015. The attorneys joined the DON OGC from private practice at Renner, Otto, Boisselle & Sklar, LLP in Cleveland, Ohio and from Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox PLLC in Washington, DC. The Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA welcomed one new intellectual property attorney who most recently worked at the Department of Energy.

    The San Diego Padres unveiled their new jerseys on December 1, 2015 that incorporate the Navy’s trademarked digital camouflage pattern. Team President Mike Dee said, "Ultimately it took the approval of the Navy. This doesn't happen without the Navy." The Padres plan to wear their Navy digital camouflage jerseys eleven times in 2016. When replicas of the new camouflage jerseys are available in the team store, a portion of each sale will go to the U.S. Navy.

    November 10, 2015 marked the 240th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps’ commitment to valor and integrity as a fighting force has been constant since its inception in 1775. With this in mind, it is fitting that for this year’s birthday the 37th Commandant of the Marine Corps noted in his birthday message that over the last 240 years, “the battlefields and equipment have changed, but the spirit of the United States Marine Corps has prevailed in every clime and place.”

    The Year 2016 marks the 75th anniversary of DON OGC. Throughout the year, DON OGC plans to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of excellence!

    During November 2015, DON OGC recognized Native American Heritage Month. Native Americans have served our Nation with honor and distinction. One of the six service members to raise the U. S. flag atop Mount Suribuchi on the island of Iwo Jima was Ira Hayes, a Pima Indian. Approximately 21,000 Native Americans currently serve to protect our Nation through their service in the military and as Department of Defense civilian members.

    On December 13, 2015, attorneys from the Office of Naval Research volunteered at a local food kitchen serving lunch to needy men, women, and children in the Washington, DC area. Our attorneys are committed to giving back to the community, especially during the holiday season!
