Contact Information

The Bureau of Naval Personnel Inspector General (IG) advises and assists the Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP) and the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Manpower and Personnel) in all inspector general matters.  The IG administers Investigation, Inspection, Audit Liaison/Response, Command Evaluation, and Management Control programs/functions.  Our office ensures coordination on such matters with oversight agencies from DON, DOD, and other federal agencies, and within and between CNP, Commander, Navy Personnel Command, Commander, Navy Recruiting Command, and subordinate activities.

Our hotline investigations primarily focus on manpower and personnel organizational or program fraud, waste, abuse, integrity, or efficiency issues.  Individual personnel issues are generally not accepted by the IG for investigation.  A complainant must fully exhaust all established procedures for his/her personnel issues with their supervisor and chain of command and demonstrate that process has failed before the IG will investigate such a complaint.

Review the BUPERS Chain of Command list to determine whether BUPERS is the correct command to submit your complaint.  If you are still unsure, call the hotline number below to discuss your issue.

Your command should be your first point of contact if you are considering filing a complaint.  You will save time by submitting your complaint to the lowest level in the chain of command.

If you are unable to resolve your issue using your chain of command, you may consider contacting your local IG.  The IG will review your complaint to determine whether or not the issue is a matter for the IG.  The IG will acknowledge receipt of your complaint and tell you an investigation will be conducted or explain why your issue is not appropriate for investigation.

If you submit your complaint to DoD IG or the Naval Inspector General, your complaint is forwarded to the local IG for investigation.  You will save time by submitting your complaint directly to the local IG.

Review the 4-Step Hotline Complaint Procedure, if you have not already.
